The MPPC recently sat down with scratch model builder Guillermo Rojas Bazan to get to the bottom of what historically accurate scale model building is all about.    

For decades, models and miniatures have made impossible shots happen on screen.  Real life and fictional subjects could be miniaturized with relative accuracy and materialize on film as reality.  However, the skills and experience of building models usually develops over a lifetime that often begins as a childhood pastime.  While Guillermo doesn’t build his masterpieces for use in movies, every miniature builder in the business can look back to a time when they built models on their own merits — when imagination and creativity gained a foothold in the development of skill and knowledge.  It is on this basis that we are grateful to spend some time talking to one of the world’s preeminent scratch model airplane builders about his passion and his experiences spanning a lifetime of building some of the world’s most complex and interesting models.
